Community

Our school works in partnership with many groups, schools and organisations. Some of these are local and we work collaboratively with schools across Leeds.

Noctua Teaching Schools Alliance

Teaching schools are schools that work with others to provide high quality training and development to new and experienced school staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system. We are an operational partner of the Noctua Teaching Schools Alliance which comprises over 70 primary schools in Leeds.

Learning Enquiry Group

Weetwood Primary School is part of a close knit group of schools in the local area. These primary schools meet together regularly to share strategies for school improvement. We spend times in one another’s schools sharing good practice and learning and improving together.

Headingley Kirkstall Schools Partnership

Our local schools’ partnership comprises schools in our immediate area and also the other key services in our area. We meet together regularly to address the needs of the area and to work in closer partnership with one another. This ensures that services do not overlap each other, but instead complement each other’s services.

Leeds Beckett University

Our school has a well-established link with Leeds Beckett University. This partnership offers rewards for both the university and ourselves. We support their students who spend time with us when on placement as teaching students. The benefits which the school receives include their students working with our children on specific projects and also helping our children to aspire to being at university by hosting them as visitors. The university also hosts our Year 3 children for their swimming lessons.

Professional Agencies

To support the needs of all our children, it is important that we develop and maintain partnerships with a whole range of agencies. This we have good relationships with the school nursing service, Educational Psychologists, specialist teaching services for visually impaired children, speech and language therapists, and other professionals.

Chatterbugs Speech & Language Therapy

Chatterbugs Speech and Language Therapy are a social enterprise company who provide the school with our own speech therapist on a weekly basis. Our speech therapist works with children on both an individual basis and in groups and all of the work is tailored towards the specific needs of the children. She also provides therapy programmes for members of staff to further support the children.

Impact North Counselling

Impact North is a not-for-profit social enterprise, based in Leeds, focused on improving children’s mental health. They provide the school with an art therapist on a weekly basis. Our art therapist works with a number of children and parents across our setting and she provides support for the whole family.

Made with Music

We work with a brilliant local music charity called Made with Music. They deliver bespoke music sessions for all of the children across school. Made with Music visit school on a fortnightly basis and link their sessions to the children’s learning. Through the delivery of high quality sessions, they provide our staff with many CPD opportunities and allow the children the opportunity to shine in music. At the end of every term, they host a concert to showcase what the children have learned.

Pavla Beier – Drama

Pavla Beier is a drama specialist that works with every year group in school. Pavla was part of the Headingley based drama group Blah Blah Blah before working as a freelance drama specialist. She works intensively with every year group for a month and uses a wide variety of drama techniques to bring stories to life. The drama sessions are planned to directly feed into themes and topics within the existing teaching framework in order to bring a carefully selected story to life. Children have a physical and emotional experience of the story from the inside - meeting characters through teacher-in-role - deepening their understanding of the narrative. Working together as a whole class - sometimes in role as characters themselves - the children are explorers, excavators and investigators. By digging deeper under the surface of a story to speculate about the characters, their inferred motives and their effects on the world around them, the children seek out what it means to be human from a multitude of different perspectives in a host of different settings.

Christopher Duffin – Recorder & keyboard

Chris Duffin teaches recorder and keyboard - he has played since the age of 4, starting on the keyboard and recorders and by the age of 13 he had achieved his Grade 8 in Piano, Organ and Keyboard. Chris works as a tutor and is an in demand session musician and composer for film and TV. Through his composition and performance work he receives extensive play on Radio 1, 6music, Radio 3 and has received invitations from the likes of Robert Smith of The Cure to play their specially curated festivals.

Johnny Richards – Piano

Johnny Richards teaches piano at Weetwood. Since graduating from Leeds College of Music in 2010, he has taught piano privately and in schools to students of all ages and all abilities throughout Leeds. As a professional musician, he most recently received a nomination for the BASCA British Composer Award 2018 and over the years he has had original projects featured on BBC Radio 2, 3, & 6 as well as touring throughout Europe at major festivals.

Leeds Lieder

Discovering Lieder introduces primary school children to the joys of attending a classical concert and invites them into the wonderful world of stories and characters found in Art Song. It runs over one intensive week with a culmination concert on the Friday. Each school is visited for a one-hour session with our team who present Lieder as a fun and relevant art form and the children even write their own verse to a song by Schubert! On the concert day, 300 children from 10 schools across the Leeds area come together and are treated to a concert of Lieder. They hear songs by Schubert, Poulenc, Head and Dove all in their original language and perform their very own verses to round off a wonderful week!
