The Thrive Approach

At Weetwood we believe that our pupils social, emotional mental health (SEMH) is as important as their academic acheivements.

We use the Thrive Approach and out Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) to support the pupils in developing strategies to manage their behaviour and worries, become resilient and become lifelong learners.

What is the Thrive Approach?

Thrive® promotes children’s and young people’s positive mental health by helping adults know how to be and what to do in response to their differing and sometimes distressed behaviour.

The Thrive Approach® is appropriate for anyone working with children.

Based on established neuroscience, attachment theory and child development, the Thrive Approach provides training and an online profiling and action-planning tool to equip adults with the knowledge, insights and resources needed to develop the relationships that help children and young people to flourish and learn.

Mrs Sally Watkins is our lead Thrive practitioner in school. She supports the class teachers in profiling (assessing) the children they teach and writing action plans for support. Once assessed, Mrs Watkins takes individuals or small groups to work on small step targets.

Mrs Amy Pickin (SENCO) is our Thrive leader, she ensures that the Thrive appraoch is embedded within the classrooms.

Our Mission

"We believe all children can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world."

Our Mission

We provide an exciting and creative curriculum which helps every child reach their full potential and develop their own talents.

Our Vision

We believe that our children should not only be academically ready for their next stage in learning but should be able to express themselves – be it in drama, music, the arts and sport.
