Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding, allocated to schools by the government, to support pupils of all abilities who may be disadvantaged. This funding is intended to raise their achievement, closing the gap between them and their peers. It is based on those children who are eligible and in receipt of Free School Meals - (FSM) and those children who are Looked After Children – (LAC). The figure is calculated on children who have been granted free school meals in the last 6 years.

Schools are free to decide how best to allocate Pupil Premium funding to ensure impact in narrowing the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their non-disadvantaged peers.

How do we use the funding?

At Weetwood Primary School, we strive to use Pupil Premium funding effectively to support children academically and personally and socially; helping to overcome any barriers to learning by focusing on their individual requirements. We ensure that a wide range of opportunities are on offer to help children achieve their potential.

Our Pupil Premium strategy is underpinned by our knowledge of quality first teaching. We use the Education Endowment Foundation Toolkit to inform our teaching practices. Senior leaders and class teachers monitor disadvantaged children’s attainment and progress at termly Pupil Progress Meetings. This ensures any needs arising from their disadvantage are met from Pupil Premium funding.
